Snootchie Bootchies.

I just saw a commercial for Comic Book Men, and it reminded me of a post I wanted to do a few weeks ago. (PS. If you like Kevin Smith, and you like the show Pawn Stars, I suggest watching Comic Book Men, its a great combo of both).

I find great amusement with Kevin Smith, I listen to his smodcasts, I watch his movies, I read his books, I've even had the joy of seeing a Q&A show of his. So when the theater in town was using when of their theaters to show a live stream of smodcast/Q&A, I knew I wanted to go. It's really weird considering it doesn't seem like something they would hold here. But they did, and I'm so glad we went. It was hilarious. I haven't laughed that much in a theater in awhile.

The only downside was that it didn't start til 8:30, not that thats the issue, but that he was on the west coast. So it was to last for a full three hours, on a week night. I was surprised at the amount of people that actually showed up. Mostly all guys, not surprising, and it definitely smelled like a Kevin Smith crowd. It rather smelled like high school actually. It was oddly reminiscent. But it was happy. Lots of laughing. Lots of smart jokes. Lots of dumb jokes. And we did end up leaving early, a little before 11, but it was well well worth it.

Throwback Thursday: London Calling!

Sometime around 2002, the young Nordyke clan went to England and Scotland for three weeks. I say around 2002, because I am already losing my mind with old age and don't remember. But really moreso that it would involve doing math to figure out the actual year, and frankly, I went to film school to AVOID math.

Anyways, London came up on our Spring Break trip this year, and it makes me want to go back. I adored London and other cities visited. And I feel like I can more appreciate more of the history this time, more than when I was 15/16/17 and all I cared about was shopping, the amount of sheep, and finding nonweird ketchup for my fries. And the fact that we drove the whole trip, and I was crammed into the back of a tiny tiny car with the suitcases and my 10 year old brother.....

Throwback Thursday: Frau took Friends to Frankfurt.

This throwback isn't even one of my own. But one of the people is sitting on the couch next to me, and another is someone I saw over Christmas that I hadn't seen since probably 2000. But that's neither here nor there. And neither is this picture really. It was taken Tim's senior year of high school when he took a school summer trip to Germany. In fact, that summer was the same summer that the Nordyke clan also ventured to Germany. Our trips overlapped by about a day. I'm pretty sure that trip began his travel bug. The stories that came out of that trip are quite entertaining. Just not one for the interwebs! So sorry kids. Boring picture for you, yet again!

Captive of the Couch

I'm so glad I get to see these girls more than once a year, I adore them! (This will make more sense later in the post....)

Today I lay here on the couch, rendered completely immovable by excruciating back pain. And I know I'm not over the line in saying that, because it took many tears, lots of Tim help, and at least 15 minutes to get me from bed to couch this morning. And its not even 30 feet away. I luckily got into the chiropractor before the holiday break, and even he thought I was totally jacked up. Crazily jacked up.
So, now I am cracked, still in pain, and icing it like crazy, because I absolutely refuse to not go out tonight. Its New Years Eve and these are my first actual plans. Last year was Amsterdam, but Im not counting that. Tim has to work til 5, so I at least hadn't planned on going to IC with the girls to see killer Scottish music, but there's family hors deurvs to be had, and later on, the big plans. Black and White Ball at Bourre. I searched high and low for a dress, found one, and now I HAVE TO WEAR IT. I refuse to be crippled. Even if I stand at the table for an hour and then have to leave. Its better than nothing.
Plus, its with people that we haven't really gone out with before. Some old faces, yes. But also a lot of new ones from the rec center who originated the Black and White Ball plan. It seems like these are the days of good friends, and I hope these people are at least the start of some of that. Like this past weekend for example, a friend of ours from high school basically invited everyone he still remotely knew to a local bar, and the amount of people that showed up, the day after Christmas, was insane. I saw people that I saw every day for years, that I havent seen in more than half a decade. It was really interesting. In a good way mostly, some of the people could have stayed in their caves though ;) Here's a few captures:
Jack thinks he's hilarious. I live in fear.

We packed the bar. PACKED it. And I knew at least one person at all but two tables. That's sayin something!

3eb. I heart you.

I have been going deaf for a number of years now. Not to a degree that is medically concerning, but my phone conversations consist of a lot more, "What?" "Huh?" "Say that again"s. I blame my frequent attendance of concerts. And earbuds. And macaroni and cheese. Ok, maybe not that last one, but still. A pluthera of issues have contributed to my detriment. But on Monday, I only helped it along its course. Third Eye Blind was in Iowa City. I hate that it was on a Monday, and I totally didn't feel like going, but by the time it was time to go, I was pumped. We saw them six months ago to the day, and it was amazing. This would only be the same. It was awesome. The crowd took awhile to get warmed up (stupid Iowa City kids) but eventually we worked our way to the middle and it was awesome.

Third Eye Blind is the band of my jr high/ high school years. And I think saying that says enough. The red and the blue albums are two of maybe four albums ever that I can listen to nonstop, first song to last, without skipping a single song. Love it. Love them. I never saw them perform when they were "popular" and when I heard they were our touring to promote their first new album in six years....sign me up. His voice is just one of those voices, its like I am instantly back in the day (of course a Wednesday). Calming, even when not. *sigh*
